Dirty digging, a sign of the times.

The current mudslinging in certain Wards for the City of Stirling local government elections have not gone unnoticed;

From Perth Voice interactive

…He’s contested numerous council elections but he says he’s never seen anything like the mudslinging going on in the Osborne and Hamersley wards in the lead up to this year’s elections. New candidates have waged highly negative online campaigns against council incumbents.

“I never have seen anything like this,” sighs Willox.
There’s never been any unpleasantness or dirt. It’s always been a gentlemanly process.

Well lets now add Doubleview to that list, another ward where candidates signs have been defaced or removed and replaced with other opposing candidates signs, often, as in  Doubleview, from private property without permission.

Doubleview first-timer Rob Paparde has now joined in the mudslinging, posting on facebook about `integrity` and `bullying` whilst dishing up old news on an  incumbent one can only assume with no more than an intention to discredit.

“I will never bully council staff if elected or be the subject of a WorkSafe order. Vote me for integrity and being able to work with residents, ratepayers and employees of Stirling Council.”

The Worksafe improvement notice that so rattled Mr Paparde’s integrity warning system was in reality served on Stuart Jardine as the CEO of the City of Stirling, and no, the CEO was not suggested or named as a bully either.

The State Administrative Tribunal , a real Court,  tore to shreds any previous actual finding of bullying against Councillor Re and gave some not so subtle hints at a possible source of much of the bullying in the City.

………………

It looks now however like dirt digging is the order of the day, to the point that incumbents appear to be joining in … an anonymous mudslinging facebook page has popped up to `fact check` on a couple of candidates , the very Hamersley and Osborne candidates accused of waging highly negative campaigns .

Sadly, the Fact Check site has to date only 1 friend , actually a mutual friend and Council incumbent Andrew Guilfoyle.

There is no suggestion that Councillor Guilfoyle created that page, but he clearly has some highly fervent followers whose digging will, by the vagaries of facebook and Councilor Guilfoyle’s ‘friendship’, show up on the pages of many more of his friends.
