Live streaming of council meetings at Stirling one step closer

Good news! On Tuesday night at the City of Stirling Community and Development Committee meeting (25 September 2018), Councillors agreed to recommend that live streaming of council meetings, with public question time to be included.

Officers recommended that live streaming should be implemented, but they had slipped in a little bullet point under a list of points titled “Decisions on the set up of live streaming” on page 148 of the agenda, which read “Do Not Record Public Question Time”.

Fortunately, this attempt to silence the voices of Ratepayers (who fund the meetings) was over turned by our faithful and democratically minded elected representatives (our Councillors), who insisted that public question time should be included.

Thank you Councillors! The item will now go to a full Ordinary Council Meeting for final approval (possibly on the 2nd of October), and hopefully the rest of the Councillors will also vote in favour of it.

Live streaming council meetings will enable community members who can’t make it to evening council meetings to be able to watch them from their computers or phones either live or at a time that is convenient to them.

Contact your ward councillors and encourage them to vote for  live streaming of council meetings to improve transparency and accessibility.
